Wine, art and history—as well as a landscape that inspires poets and painters—is the essence of this itinerary. Discovering the heart of Chianti and Valdelsa, the tour will take you through high hills and small valleys where vineyards, olive trees and woods alternate harmoniously. This region, which was already appreciated by the ancient Etruscans and the medieval citizens of Florence and Siena, is currently the centre of the local wine production. It is here that both Chianti Classico and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Michelangelo‘s favourite wine, come from. Our tour begins and ends in Florence.

I will meet you at your hotel or apartment with the private driver that I will have arranged for you. Taking the fast road to Siena, we will reach the Chianti Classico area and stop in Castellina in Chianti for a short visit of the town and a cup of coffee, if you wish. From there, we will proceed to the winery of your choice for a visit, some wine tasting and a light lunch (this is to be arranged beforehand).

In the afternoon, we will head to Valdelsa, a fascinating region inhabited since the Etruscan times and visit the medieval skyscrapers of San Gimignano. The town’s walls and fourteen towers, dating back to the 13th century, witnessed the rise to wealth of local merchant and banker families who profited from San Gimignano’s strategic location between Siena, Pisa and Florence. Thanks to this central location, the main church, the Collegiata, boasts frescoes by the best painters of the Siena school, as well as some masterpieces by the great Florentine painters of the early Renaissance.

We end the tour on Piazza della Cisterna and, before returning to Florence, we will also be able to enjoy a glass of Vernaccia or some ice cream, known to be the best in Tuscany.
